Very small shovel, looks like a kids shovel. I would rather use and axe to dig a hole! I would suggest getting a better, larger unit which would cost more money than this economy version.

Although I will credit Gerber with a solid construction on this shovel, I cannot say that I was utterly pleased with my purchase. I noticed another reviewer mention that he didn't like how dull the digging edge of the shovel is. I don't really think that's the problem. In my opinion, I believe the shovel would be spectacular if when fully extended, it was more than 15 1/8". How can a person get any leverage with a handle that short? I think it would be wonderful for digging, if I awoke to find myself buried alive. However, I think I'll just keep it in my car in case I get stuck in the snow.

This is not a Big Shovel, this is a Right Sized Folding Shovel that comes in Handy. It is compact, the blade is about the size of your hand. It will dig with the best of them, if you have ever tried to dig out a stuck vehicle with any available object (branchs, cans, rocks, screwdrivers, hand, jack handle, etc.) you will understand. It isn't going to be fast, cause it's Cute-Sized, but you will get out with a little determination.
